The Rivalry Series is an annual set of games between the U.S. and Canadian women’s national hockey teams, showcasing top-tier women’s hockey across various locations in the United States and Canada. The 2024-25 series, presented by Discover, features five games: three hosted by USA Hockey in November and two in Canada in February.
A significant number of players in the Rivalry Series are from the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). In the 2023-24 series, 36 PWHL players—21 from Canada’s national team and 15 from the U.S. national team—participated in the initial games held in November. Marie-Philip Poulin received first PWHL career fine
Montreal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been fined $250 US by the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) for a charging penalty in her team’s 2-1 win over the New York Sirens on Sunday.
The fine was announced after an automatic review by the PWHL’s player safety committee. Poulin delivered a hard open-ice hit on New York forward Jade Downie-Landry at 13:48 of the third period. Downie-Landry hit the ice hard and temporarily left the game, but she did not sustain a head or facial injury. As a result, Poulin was not given a game misconduct, only a five-minute major penalty for charging.
Despite the penalty, Poulin had an outstanding game, scoring two goals before the hit. She has been on fire lately, with eight goals in her last seven games. Poulin currently leads the PWHL in scoring with 10 goals this season.
This is the first time Poulin has received a major penalty and a fine in her PWHL career. Meanwhile, Montreal continues to dominate, leading the league with an 8-3-1-2 record and riding a five-game winning streak.
